Well that’s pretty dumb, considering the Forester also uses the new 2.0 platform, and therefore there is no reason to assume it will still eat head gaskets. Plus the 2.0 never had that issue. It was the 2.5. (I would know. My previous car was a 98 Outback with a 2.5, and by the time I sold it with 286k, it had been through two sets if head gaskets.)

They fixed the head gasket issue with the second gen EJ25 back in ‘10. New head gasket and a closed deck design.That salesman is a moron. He probably confused head gasket with timing belt, which the EJ needed at 100k ish miles, but the new engine has a chain.
